La Regina is a holiday rental villa situated just outside village of Gualdo, less than 2km. The farmhouse had been uninhabited for nearly 40 years. A group of local artisan builders have restored it with a great care using the old stones; tiles and wooden beams retrieved within the property, and have turned it into a charming and comfortable holiday villa with modern touch. The position of the houses has amazing views to the town of Sarnano and the village of Gualdo, not forgetting a majestic view of Mt. Sibillini.
Entrance to the house: there are two entrances to the house. The main entrance is from the car park going down a few steps to the ground floor entrance. Another is to the first floor, the same level as the parking area. The latter, a wide door leads into the second sitting/studio room.
There are together four bedrooms and three bathrooms. In the main house there are two sitting rooms, kitchen, dinning room, three bedrooms, and two bathrooms on the three levels. In the outbuilding there is another bedroom with a separate shower room downstairs, see below.
The ground floor: The kitchen has a huge oak old beam across entire wall creating a traditional farmhouse stove hood. Yet, it’s airy and functionable with the latest electric appliances. The next room (open from kitchen) is a dinning room furnished with rustic antique furniture. Two steps down from the dining room is the lounge area with open fire place and music system with both CD player and Bluetooth connectivity for your mobile music devices. Wireless internet connection is available throughout the house.
The first floor: there are a double bedroom, a twin bedroom, a bathroom with shower facility, and a second spacious sitting/study room, which leads up to the master bedroom. This sitting room has a comfortable sofa/bed.
The second/top floor: a few steps from the sitting room up to a cathedral like large master bedroom with a luxury en-suite bathroom (double basins, a huge bath + separate walk-in shower).
Outbuilding: This is a two-storey annex – the ground floor comprises a large laundry, bathroom with shower, and pool equipment room; upstairs is an independent twin bedroom and a carefully restored original bread/pizza oven which works beautifully.
For the Alfresco living/dinning: There are two areas, the first just outside the kitchen with pergola top. The second is under the covered area, called “loggia” in front of the pool outside ground floor of the annex building.
The pool is 10 x 5m with its position of two great views to Sarnano and Gualdo village.
Ancona (airport) – one hour by car (inexpensive flights with Ryanair).
The village of Gualdo just “around the corner” offers basic shopping, banking, etc. Market day is on Tuesday. The nearby town of Sarnano, 10 min away offers most services, pizzeria’s, restaurants, supermarket, tennis courts, hospital and health spa, Fonte San Giacomo with it’s mineral water spring and beauty treatment. The market day is on Thursday. Sarnano is notable as one of the few in Le Marche to preserve its medieval town center completely.
What to do?
Horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, trekking, etc. are available in the nearby Mount Sibillini National Park.
Places of great historical interest can be reached within half an hour’s driving:
Sarnano, a perfectly restored little town that sits on a hill and is built in a spiral fashion around it. Amandola, a town noted for its antique tradition of ebony furniture and marquetry artistry. Caldarola, with its castles and Serrapetrona famous for its elliptic square, its palaces and mansions and its summer festivals. Then there is Camerino, the ducal city of antique magnificence.
The Roman ruins of the antique town of Urbisaglia are worth visiting along the road to Macerata. They include a magnificent amphitheatre, which, during the summer months, stages a Greco-Roman theatre festival. Visiting Macerata could satisfy an interest in the melodramatic opera. The Sferisterio can be found there, the second Italian arena after Verona. The works of great artists are put on display every year, drawing attention from all over Europe.
Near the Conero National Park coastline is Recanati, where Giacomo Leopardi was born and only one hour in car from the farmhouse you can find the great beaches of the Adriatic Coast like at Porto San Giorgo Sirola.
