Beautiful Italian villa with private swimming pool and natural garden in Le Marche

Villa Classica is a beautifully renovated traditional Italian farmhouse with private swimming pool. The farmhouse has origins in the early 1800’s. In 1955 it has been converted into the villa it is now. It has been lovingly restored according to old building traditions and is reached by a little used 1 km country lane.

It is situated near the medieval villages of Gualdo and Sarnano as well as to the Parco Nazionale dei Monti Sibillini. On arrival, one finds oneself surrounded by farmland – cultivated with sunflower or wheat-, meadows with flocks of sheep and wonderful views. Most rooms, all comfortably furnished, have pleasant, uninterrupted views. Several look on to the majestic Sibillini Mountains.

The surrounding area is on the outskirts of the beautiful and unspoiled Sibillini National Park. The whole area is protected, which means ample bird life and an abundance of flowers. It is not unusual to see orchids growing at the side of the road.

Accommodation

You enter the villa via the large living/dining room with a fireplace. There is a TV and SKY satellite connection, plus a Sonos speaker. From the living room, you can step onto the spacious, shady portico with archway – ideal for al fresco dining and an afternoon tea, glass of wine or aperitivo. This area faces the old olive tree garden (5000m2) and swimming pool (12×6,5 m with diving board). There are several fruit trees as well as some old oak trees.

The large kitchen is well-equipped with top-quality appliances including a dishwasher and a double oven gas cooker. Additionally, there is a washing machine in the garage.

There are four bedrooms. On the ground floor there is a twin bedroom with a bathroom opposite. On the first floor you will find the other three bedrooms: one is a huge master bedroom with en-suite bathroom equipped with a bath. A twin and a double bedroom share another bathroom.

Distances

Ancona and Perugia airports are a little over an hour away (flights with Ryanair, BA or Transavia to London Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted, Rotterdam, Paris, Vienna, Brussels, Munich, Weeze/Dusseldorf, and many destinations in Italy).

The village of Gualdo just ‘around the corner’ offers two groceries, a bakery, pharmacy, two café-bars, a restaurant, etc. Market day is Tuesday.

The nearby town of Sarnano, 10 min. driving, offers most services, pizzerias, cafés, bars, restaurants, supermarkets, butcheries, bakeries, pharmacies, tennis courts, a hospital, etc. Also, a health spa, Fonte San Giacomo with its mineral water spring and beauty treatment. A local market is held every Thursday. Sarnano is notable as one of the few towns in Le Marche to preserve its medieval town center completely. Provincial capital Macerata is 40 mins away, with hospitals and many other services.

What to do?

Horse riding, mountain biking, paragliding, trekking, etc. are available in the nearby Monti Sibillini National Park. In winter half an hour away you can find two small ski resorts with in total 15 lifts and 25 kms of slopes.

Within half an hour’s driving you can reach places of great historical and cultural interest: Sarnano, a perfectly restored small town that sits on a hill and is built in a spiral fashion around it. Amandola, a town noted for its antique tradition of ebony furniture and marquetry artistry – and it’s cosy cafe’s under the portici in the historical centre. Caldarola and Serrapetrona are famous for their castles, elliptic squares, palaces and mansions, and summer festivals. Then there is Camerino, the ducal city of antique magnificence. Umbria (Foligno) can be reached within an hour, with the towns of Assisi, Perugia, Spello, Spoleto, Trevi, Gubbio, etc nearby.

The Roman ruins of the antique town of Urbisaglia are worth visiting along the road to Macerata. They include a magnificent amphitheater, which, during the summer months, stages a Greco-Roman theatre festival. Visiting Macerata could satisfy an interest in the melodramatic opera. The Sferisterio can be found there, the second Italian arena after Verona. The works of renowned artists are put on display every year, drawing attention from all over the world.

Near the Conero National Park coastline is Recanati, where poet-writer Giacomo Leopardi was born. Furthermore, only just over an hour in car from the farmhouse you can find the great beaches of the Adriatic Coast like Grottomare, Numana, San Benedetto del Tronto, and Sirolo. The beaches of Civitanova Marche and Porto San Giorgio can be reached in 45-50 minutes. On the way (SS77var) to the coast you pass by a Design Outlet, named Il Castagno Brand Village.
