We are so happy to welcome back Ralph as a “guest” blogger! Ralph and his family have been coming to Le Marche for many years and know everything about what there is to do in the region. They are an active and young family and have tried many things while holidaying in various parts of Le Marche. So if you are coming to Le Marche definitely check out this blog! If you live in the Dutch region of Limburg, we strongly recommend that you visit their physiotherapy practice Fysiotherapie Bruinsma (website)!
Boating around Monte Conero
When you’re on vacation with two teenage sons and have been visiting the same region for a while, you need to get creative to keep their interest alive. Since we love being near, in, or on the water, we thought it would be fun to spend a day out on a motorboat. We specifically chose one that didn’t require a boating license, allowing the kids to take the helm and experience steering firsthand. After all, practice makes perfect.
Renting a boat via Click&Boat
After some online research, we found Click&Boat, a platform similar to Booking.com but for boat rentals of all types and sizes. The website is user-friendly, available in English, and we quickly found our perfect match – a Gommorizzo 5.60. This boat, equipped with a 40hp engine, ample storage, and space for six people, was perfect for our group of four. The reservation and payment process went smoothly and hassle-free.
Starting our boating trip in Ancona
We had to report at 8:00 AM at the port of Ancona. Prior to arrival, we communicated with the boat owner via the app, who provided clear parking instructions. After parking in the spacious lot, we walked to the designated gate as mentioned in the app. There, our boat was already waiting in the water, ready for departure.
Following a brief instruction on boat usage and water regulations, we set off from the port of Ancona. Once out of the harbor, we couldn’t resist testing the boat’s speed – and it turned out to be quite fast for a 40hp engine. The kids were thrilled to take turns at the helm.
Cruising along the coast to Due Sorelle
From Ancona, we cruised along the coastline towards Due Sorelle, a stunning beach with two iconic rock formations that stand side by side in the water, giving the beach its name, “Two Sisters.” Along the way, we stopped in several bays, dropping anchor to swim and snorkel, or simply to bask in the sun and admire the breathtaking surroundings. Despite visiting this area for years, the beauty never fails to impress us.
Lunch stop at Portonovo
Since we only brought drinks with us, we decided to have lunch at Portonovo, a popular beach among locals with plenty of charming dining options. We underestimated how challenging it would be to dock the boat, so we made the best of the situation by swimming to shore. There, we enjoyed a delicious piadina with tomato and mozzarella and another with prosciutto and mozzarella. After lunch, we swam back to the boat, feeling refreshed and satisfied.
Returning to Ancona port
With full stomachs, we spent a few more hours enjoying the water before heading back to the port of Ancona around 4:00 PM. The boat needed to be returned by 7:00 PM at the latest. After docking the boat and gathering our belongings, we headed home with a sense of fulfillment.
This trip is definitely worth repeating and is a must-do for anyone looking to explore the Le Marche region from the water!
